Psychoeducational and Neuropsychological Testing

Psychoeducational	Tests cognitive functioning and academic achievement May be indicated when there are questions of learning or intellectual disabilities and the student has not responded adequately to multi-tier instructional interventions in school Usually provided by school professionals, typically at no cost to families Consider a referral to a clinic or private provider when testing conducted by the school is not adequate or the school will not conduct the evaluation despite advocacy efforts by the family
Neuropsychological	Rarely recommended for diagnostic evaluation May be lengthy and expensive, generally reserved for cases in which children are suspected of having cognitive impairments or change in cognitive status due to medical conditions (e.g., head trauma, brain tumor, stroke) NEA’s 504 vs IEP
