About Michael Napkori, DO, FAAP, FAACPDM

Michael Napkori, DO, FAAP, FAACPDM, is a neuromuscular pediatrician at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). He serves children and adolescents through CHOP’s Neuromuscular Program and as a member of the Orthopedic Center, caring for patients with conditions that affect the bones, muscles and nerves.

Dr. Napkori’s clinical focus includes medical optimization, orthopedic screening and follow‑up, and long‑term continuity of care for children with complex medical conditions, helping ensure patients receive coordinated multidisciplinary support. He also regularly evaluates and manages common pediatric orthopedic concerns such as flat feet, in-toeing and out-toeing, toe walking, torticollis, tone abnormalities, and general musculoskeletal injuries that do not require surgery.

Supporting families seeking collaborative neuromuscular care

As a non‑surgical neuromuscular physician, Dr. Napkori works closely with orthopedic surgeons, rehabilitation specialists and other pediatric orthopedic experts to support children’s overall health and mobility through a coordinated approach to neuromuscular care.

“My role is often to help families understand the full picture, coordinating care with surgeons and therapists when indicated while focusing on function, comfort and mobility,” Dr. Napkori says. “One of the strengths of CHOP is how seamlessly our specialists work together. Whether a child needs therapy, bracing or surgical input, families can feel confident that we’re always making these decisions together as a team.”

Dr. Napkori joined CHOP in 2023 as an urgent care pediatrician, caring for children with both routine and complex needs. That experience inspired his transition to neuromuscular care and now, a role which allows Dr. Napkori to care for patients over time and help families anticipate challenges as children grow.

“I continue to work in urgent care at CHOP from time to time, which in my opinion helps me stay well rounded as a general pediatrician and ultimately allows me to provide more comprehensive care to my patients.”

Training, background and philosophy of care

Originally from Wilkes‑Barre, Pennsylvania, Dr. Napkori earned his medical degree from the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, Virginia. He completed his general pediatrics residency at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania along with additional training in pediatric neuromuscular orthopedics at CHOP. Dr. Napkori is board certified in general pediatrics and is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine.

His training across both community and tertiary care settings has shaped a patient- and family-centered approach to care. He believes families should feel informed, supported and empowered throughout their CHOP experience.

“Every child is different, and every family comes with their own questions and concerns. I make it a priority to take the time needed at each visit, so families feel heard and understand the complete clinical picture. When families understand their options, they’re better equipped to make decisions that align with their child’s needs and goals. Clear communication and shared decision-making are essential to building a plan that truly makes sense for each child and family.”

Life beyond the hospital

Outside of work, Dr. Napkori enjoys all sports – especially golf – swimming and fitness and following the Phillies. He lives in King of Prussia and sees patients at select CHOP locations.
